Easter Bunny History
The Easter Bunny originated with the pagan festival Eastre. The goddess, Eastre, was worshipped through her earthly symbol the rabbit. Additionally, the rabbit is one of the most fertile animals around and is a good symbol for new life, which is what Easter symbolizes to Christians.
The first edible Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s. The first bunnies were not made of chocolate; they were made of pastry and sugar. Until the civil war, Easter was not really celebrated by Americans, but after that time, Easter was widely celebrated and the chocolate Easter bunny made its way from Europe over to America.
