Fruit Smoothie

In the summertime, when there is an abundance of strawberries in my garden, I pick them all, wash and remove the heads and put them in my freezer to make smoothies later. I'll also buy, peel and freeze some bananas as well as whatever else is in season (kiwis, peaches, etc). To make a smoothie more delicious, it's better if you freeze all the fruit first. But prepare it first, before you freeze it so it's ready to be thrown directly into the blender.

What to add to your smoothie? Well, the variations are endless, but besides the fruit, here is my list of general ingredients that I mix and match:

-oatmeal

-nuts (almonds/walnuts/pecans)

-dairy (milk/yogurt/icecream)

-water

-orange juice

-lemon/lime juice

-protein powder

-dessert tofu

-12 grain powder

Throw in whatever you want, blend it up until smooth and drink or eat with a spoon. Mmmm.

French Toast: the Perfect Addition for your Breakfast Menu

French toast is the perfect breakfast for a lazy weekend meal at home. It's very simple to make:

Scramble up some eggs in a bowl (1 per 2 pieces of bread). Mix in a wee bit of sugar and cinnamon and milk. Dip the bread in, on both sides and fry in a pan with a bit of oil. Only flip once so that it stays nice and fluffy.

Sprinke a bit of icing sugar on top when it's done.

Toppings can include: fruit/frozen fruit that has been thawed, syrup, cream cheese, etc.

I'll share a special favorite with you. Melt some butter in a pan with brown sugar and cinnamon. When it's all bubbly and the sugar is dissolved, add some cut up bananas or apples, and a bit of vanilla. Let th fruit cook until soft. At the end, add a splash of rum or kahlua. Mmm.

Breakfast Burrito

It's trendy and delicious! Impress your friends and family.

It's very simple and easy to make a breakfast burrito. Just fry up a few onions, peppers and tomatoes. Scramble some eggs with salt and pepper and pour them over the cooked vegetables. Stir everything until the eggs are cooked. Put some grated cheese on top of the eggs when it's done. Then, put some of the egg mixture inside a tortilla shell. Add some salsa on top and wrap it up. That's it! It should take you less than 10 minutes.

Oatmeal

It doesn't have to be boring!

Plain old oatmeal is the perfect things for a cool fall or winter day. It's much healthier and cheaper if you don't buy those instant packs but instead make your own. It's super easy to just follow the directions on the package that you buy. To spice it up a little, I like to add some fruit, whatever is in season or in my garden works best. Sometimes, I cut up and apple, rhubarb or pear. Or, I throw in some frozen or dried blueberries or cranberries. What about raisins? It's all so delicious.

And, it's so healthy! Low calorie, with lots of fiber and it can reduce your cholesterol.

Omeletes

A simple, healthy and delicious breakfast idea

Omelets are very easy to make, if you do it the lazy way. Just fry up some veggies and meat of your choice. I like peppers, tomatoes, onions, and bacon or ham. Set them aside. Cook some eggs that you've beaten with a little milk, salt and pepper. Try to just cook it on one side, and then flip it. Put the veggies in the middle with some cheese and close the other side on top of it. Serve on toast.

Waffles

They're easier than you think to make

Waffles are easier to make than you might think. Just go to your local Walmart or kitchen specialty store and get a waffle iron or buy one online from this site and have it delivered direct to you door.

The iron will include some recipes. Mix it up and follow the directions and about 20 minutes later, you should have a plate full of delicious, crispy, mouth-watering waffles. Refer to the french toast section for possible toppings.

Very Simple Pancake Recipe

Pancakes are also one of those things that are super-easy to make but that nobody knows how to do! Well, you can impress your family and friends. You can buy a mix from the store, or you can make your own. There are lots of recipes out there on the internet, but this is how I make them.

Get some flour (white or whole-wheat) and mix in a bit of salt, baking powder and cinnamon. Add some eggs, vanilla, and milk. You can put in some nuts, blueberries, chocolate chips or cut up banana or apple at this point. Pour some into a heated, oiled pan. Cook on both sides, but flip only once so you won't make them too flat.

Refer to the French Toast section for possible toppings. Mmmm

A McMuffin Sandwich...faster and healthier than McDonalds!

It's simple, healthy and fast to make your own McMuffin sandwich. Toast some English muffins, and brush them with some butter if you like. Then, fry up an egg, and some bacon, ham or sausage. Put inside your English muffin, with a slice of cheese. I use fresh cheddar, thinly sliced but you can use a processed cheese slice if you like. Add a tomato slice for extra deliciousness!

Bacon, Eggs, and Toast

A Traditional Favorite

Bacon, Eggs and Toast is a very simple breakfast favorite to cook for your family as a special treat. To mix it up a bit, serve some salsa with the eggs, or cook up some homefries as well. Add a simple fruit salad to make it a delicious breakfast!

Fruit Salad with Granola

This is the perfect summertime, healthy breakfast. Why don't you make your salad the night before so all the flavors have a chance to mingle together? Except don't add the kiwi because it doesn't keep that well and it's better to add it fresh. If you don't have any citrusy fruit such as oranges or grapefruit, add a bit of lemon or lime juice so that the fruit will keep it's color.

Just go to the store and buy whatever fruit is in season and cheap.

You can add some granola, oatmeal, muesli to it. Don't add too much to maintain the healthiness. Add some yogurt if you want as well.

Fresh Bread

A simple breakfast is a couple pieces of toast with some fruit. Store-bought bread is usually not that delicious and also contains a lot chemicals that you don't really want in your body. A simple way to make your own bread is to buy a breadmaker. It will take you less than 5 minutes to put all the ingredients in the machine and you'll have bread about 3 hours later. In order to have it for breakfast, most machines have a timer setting so you can get it all prepared before you go to bed and wake up to the smell of bread cooking.
