Top 10 reality shows of all time

Updated on January 21, 2015

From the Deadliest Catch to Survivor to The Bachelor

Maybe you found your way to this site because you're bored with what's currently on TV and you need something new to watch. Don't worry-help is here. I'm a certified Reality TV addict and I have my favorites on this site so you can be sure to find something that interests you, including lesser known shows that you may not have heard of before.

Do you need some romance in your life? Why not check out The Bachelor and The Bachelorette to live vicariously through the characters as they fall in love. Who will get a rose? Who won't? You'll just have to watch and see.

Are you interested in business or finance and want to take over the world? Why not go with the best and watch Donald Trump and all your favorite celebrities on The Apprentice? It's a great show for budding entrepreneurs to watch as well to pick up a few tips from the master himself.

And of course everyone loves watching Gordon Ramsay lay down the trash talk to his wannabe chefs in Hell's Kitchen. It really is like kind of a hell when the chefs make some terrible mistakes like serving up raw meat or overcooked scallops. Who will survive until the very end to become one of Ramsay's head chefs.

Maybe you love psychology and figuring out what makes people tick? Survivor is definitely the reality TV show for you. There are so many seasons that you can spend months watching them all and the twists and turns will always leave you coming back for more.

Whatever you're interested in, you can be sure to find the program to fit your style and tastes.

Survivor: the Longest Running Reality Show of All-Time

We all know and love the longest-running reality TV show, Survivor. I remember years ago when I was in university, rushing home after class to catch the latest episode; my friends and I were all thoroughly addicted. There's always a good dose of drama, suffering, and crazy backstabbing in every single season. It's now on its 27th season and and people can't seem to get enough with more seasons scheduled and no end in sight.

The Deadliest Catch: Will They Live or Die?

Discovery Channel is home to one of the most exciting and realistic reality shows around: Deadliest Catch. I like it because it in no way seems scripted like other shows (Survivor!) do. Discovery follows crab fisherman in the Bering Sea in Alaska as they compete in a race against the clock to bring home their quota of crab, working in the most dangerous job in the world. Along the way, the fisherman deal with fierce storms, bitter cold, life-threatening injuries, trouble on the home-front with wives, children and girlfriends and boats sinking.

The Apprentice

Donald Trump is looking to hire a new apprentice and so the hopefuls compete in a series of tasks designed to test their business skills. He fires one of them each week until only his new apprentice remains who will get some amazing job in one of Trump's corporations.

He also hosts Celebrity Apprentice, where you can see your favorite B and C-list celebrities compete for money for their favorite charities.

Project Runway: Aspiring Fashion Designers

Hosted by the beautiful Heidi Klum, this reality show features wannabe clothing designers. They compete in a variety of challenges and one of the designers get voted off each week by a panel of judges who examine the clothes they design in excruciating detail. The 3 finalists get to compete at Fashion Week, while attaining much fame and glory along the way. The winner is crowned the top designer often goes on to achieve great success in their careers.

Work Out: Jackie Warner will help you get buff!

The star of the show is Fitness Trainer Jackie Warner, and she runs a Fitness Center in Hollywood. The show mostly centers around the gym, and her trainers but also details her personal life and has some heart-breaking scenes with her mother and fabulously dramatic ones with her lovers. It's addictive once you start watching!

Hell's Kitchen: Into the Fire!

Hosted by the English footballer and world-famous chef Gordon Ramsey, aspiring chefs from all walks of life compete to be the head chef at one of his restaurants, complete with a plush salary and all the benefits that would go along with that. It's not easy though because they're thrown into the fires of hell as Ramsey unleashes his temper on them for not cooking the scallops to his liking, or serving raw chicken.

Top Chef

Hosted by the beautiful Padma Lakshmi and head judge Tom Collicchio, this show features chefs who compete in various cooking challenges for money to kick-start their culinary careers. Each show, they have a quickfire challenge, which is a short, 30 minute-1 hour cooking task, where the winner gets money, another prize but most often immunity or some serious advantage in the main task, the elimination challenge.

During the elimination challenge, the winner gets praise and glory while the chef with the worst dish has to pack up their knives and return home.

The Amazing Race: the world on your TV!

We all know the Amazing Race-it used to be one of the most popular TV shows on TV about 10 years ago. Teams of 2 people, with a previous relationship of some sort such as a married couple, or brother/sister compete in a race around the world. Along the way, they have to compete various tasks and deal with some wild situations.

The last team to make it to the final destination each challenge gets eliminated from the show and the first team to cross the finish the line on the last challenge wins a million dollars. It's an interesting mix of travel, culture and just plain competition.

The Bachelor

The Bachelor's recipe is really very simple. One handsome, rich, charming and stylish guy needs a woman and there are plenty of woman who want to be that lucky lady. The Bachelor and the women get to know each other over a series of weeks and through various activities, as a group and then later on, dates with just the two, and people are eliminated along the way until one 1 remains-hopefully it's true love!

Kitchen Nightmares

Gordon Ramsey finds restaurants in distress and in danger of closing for a variety of reasons that often boil down to terrible owners and disgusting food that is poor quality-processed or just frozen and then microwaved. He comes in with his team to offer some help: a makeover, new menu and a kitchen clean-up and perhaps most importantly, a huge change of attitude and a passion for cooking.

It's always entertaining because most people, especially family-fun businesses are very reluctant to change as they want to hold onto what they've done in the past that has worked, but is obviously not working now. Some tough love from Gordon Ramsey seems to be just what they need.
