Top 10 TV Dramas

Updated on February 15, 2015

Everything from the West Wing to Dexter to Friday Night Lights

Watching TV is one of my favorite hobbies so you can be sure that I know the best ones to recommend to you. Welcome to this site dedicated to all my TV shows, past and present.

I love finding a good show to watch on TV. My friends and family members tell me about a few, and I find some through searching for lists on the internet. Once I find a good one that I like, I'll often buy the DVD's and watch the whole season in a few days! Does anyone else out there binge-watch a TV series like me?

But beware, some of them, like Dexter, Friday Night Lights or Six Feet Under are extremely addictive and you won't be able to get any work done until you finish them so make sure you clear your schedule first. Others, like The L Word might appeal to a niche audience, but are still pretty addictive. If you're looking for something new to watch on TV, then this is the site for you!

The West Wing: an intense political drama

Running from 1999-2006, the West Wing is a presidential drama starring Martin Sheen. You see the inside action on the decisions a president makes everyday from the Oval Office in a very realistic, believable kind of way. It's the ultimate drama series for any politic junkies out there because the West Wing will leave you feeling like you're right in the heart of the most powerful office in the world. But, be warned! It's addictive and you'll end up binge watching season after season, just like me.

Six Feet Under: so many twists and turns to keep you watching

Six Feet Under is an HBO series that ran from 2001-2005 and I love it so much that I've watched the complete series three times and have introduced countless family members and friends to it. The Fischer family runs a funeral home, and although it's an unlikely story line, each episode leaves you hanging on the edge and with high expectations for the next episode. The characters are richly developed and will make you laugh, cry and everything in between in almost every episode.

The L Word

On showtime from 2004-2009, The L Word series is a ground-breaking drama about a group of high-flying lesbians in Los Angeles, California. There are lots of drama, twists and turns, as well as hot sex scenes, which seemed to keep the viewers coming back for more and more each week. Plus, it's complete with the whole range of lesbian stereotypes from sporty dyke, to femme, to tomboy and butch.

While some of the characters and story lines are not especially realistic, especially Jenny Schecter, there are more believable ones as well like Dana or Tina and Bette.

My So Called Life

Teenage Angst at its Best!

On ABC from 1994-1995, My So Called Life had all too short of a run and it proved highly disappointing to its many fans that it was cancelled after such a brief stint. My So Called Life was highly acclaimed by the critics but just didn't have enough viewers to continue, perhaps because it didn't have a wide appeal. My So Called Life stars the fabulously talented Claire Danes, as a 15 year old in high school going through all the regular teenage trauma like dating and family problems, as well as some more serious stuff such as bullying and suicide mixed in.

24: What crazy twist happens next?!

On Fox since 2001, this long running show is the most exciting 24 hours you'll ever see on TV and probably in your real life as well. Who's the good guy? Who's the bad guy? It seems to change every episode and you'll be on the edge of your seat, kept in constant suspense trying to figure it out! My favorite is 24 season 8 because it's filled with suspense at every turn, although you might want to watch the other seasons first so you know what's going on and so you can get a feel for the characters and story lines.

The X-Files

I remember back when I was in middle school, watching the terrifying X-Files every Friday night with my Dad. Running on Fox from 1993-2002, the X-Files is just about the scariest, creepiest and spookiest TV series out there even to this day.

It has spawned numerous lores, fables and urban legends because it contained just enough bits of truth to make it seem extremely real and believable. FBI agents Mulder and Sculler, a dynamic duo work on the unsolved paranormal mystery unit to solve the mysteries that have no obvious answers. Ooohhhh. The Truth is Out There. I'm getting a few shivers up and down my spine just thinking about it.

Dexter: the friendly serial killer

On showtime from 2006 to 2013, this show features Dexter (Michael C. Hall) as a lovable serial killer with a wife and children, who kills only the bad-guy serial killers. By day, he works for the police and examines blood splatter patterns. He started out as a child by having a dark-side, which he calls his dark passenger and his father, a cop shows him how to use it as a force for good instead of evil in the world. Twists and turns keep you coming back for more!

ER: the longest-running medical show on TV

For those that like their medical dramas, ER is the perfect choice because it seems realistic and the story line is filled with twists and turns such as a tragic plane crash that kills and maims numerous main characters. It's the original and the best medical drama, in my opinion! And there are 14 seasons, so you can spend months watching! Just get the DVD's and clear your schedule.

Grey's Anatomy

This medical drama premiered in 2005, and has had 7 successful seasons since then and is still running. The show strikes a nice balance between focusing on the medicine and the real-life drama as the doctors try to juggle many personal and professional goals. An 9th season has been picked up by ABC, and creater Shonda Rhimes states that the show will continue even beyond that. Perhaps there is another ER in the making, in terms of longevity and fan following. Whatever the case, Grey's Anatomy is certainly giving ER a run for its money.

The Walking Dead

The most addictive zombie TV series you'll ever watch! I promise that you won't be able to stop watching. The basic story is that the world has fallen apart and people have become afflicted with some sort of weird disease which turns them into zombies (or walkers) after they die. If they bite someone who is still a human, that person will also become afflicted after death.

The story follows a group of humans who have managed to evade the walkers, but along the way they encounter others groups of not so benevolent people who try to protect what they have.
